Follow in the footsteps of Dante Alighieri through Verona’s food culture. Discover local shops, artisan producers, forgotten flavours and end your journey with a relaxed aperitivo, where Soave and Ripasso bring ancient rivalries back to life.

This experience is a journey through local culture, traditional flavours and the everyday rituals that continue to shape Verona’s identity.

Step into the Verona that welcomed Dante Alighieri during his years of exile and discover the city through its most authentic tastes. Designed for small groups and curated with care, this immersive food experience offers a different perspective on one of Italy’s greatest poets.

This is not your typical food tour. It is a deeper way of approaching Dante’s world through taste, in the very places where Veronese life still unfolds today. You will explore the historic centre, visiting carefully selected local shops, artisan workshops and family-run businesses that remain an integral part of the city’s daily rhythm.

Like any true Italian day, we begin with coffee and traditional pastries, a simple ritual that reveals so much about local life. From there, the experience unfolds through a series of tastings inspired by the land, the seasons and the culinary traditions that would have been familiar even in Dante’s time.

Along the way, you will discover freshly baked goods, regional specialties and flavours rooted in Lessinia, where mountain ingredients and rural traditions have influenced Verona’s cuisine for centuries. Many of these tastings rarely appear on conventional food tours, offering a more authentic and surprising perspective on the city.

As you walk the same streets once crossed by Dante Alighieri, stories of exile, power, trade and everyday life emerge naturally. Echoes of the Divine Comedy accompany the experience, where tangible moments become universal symbols. Each stop has been designed not only to delight the palate, but to reveal how food reflects identity, social roles and culture, both past and present.

Through storytelling, sensory experiences and carefully selected literary references, history comes alive without ever feeling like a lesson.

You will end the experience as locals do: with a leisurely aperitivo, enriched by a playful historical twist.

Two wines. Two visions. One final choice.

Join us to discover which side you will choose.

Programme

Over coffee and traditional Veronese pastries, we begin our journey into Dante’s world, a Verona shaped by power, symbols and stories. With a cup of coffee and a risino in hand, the present becomes a gateway to understanding how the city’s flavours have evolved through the centuries.

In one of the most authentic corners of medieval Verona, we will taste local cheeses, mostarda and dried fruits while sharing stories of banquets, social hierarchies and memorable court anecdotes. A delicious way to read the city through the foods that still find their place on Veronese tables today.

Candied fruits, torrone and chocolate tell the long story of confectionery, from the spice and honey traditions of the Middle Ages to the treats that continue to fill Verona’s historic shops. A tasting that speaks of trade, exploration and the changing nature of taste itself.

In an artisan bakery, we rediscover one of the most human themes of the Divine Comedy: exile. Through ancient grains and traditional breadmaking techniques, we explore how flavours, textures and culinary traditions continue to tell stories of identity and belonging.

Through pastissada, tartare and Verona’s butcher traditions, we discover how meat evolved from a symbol of medieval privilege into a defining element of contemporary Veronese cuisine. A rich and flavourful stop filled with stories from the past.

A vegetarian alternative is available upon request.

The journey concludes with two local wines: Soave and Ripasso. Two glasses that guide us through the world of Guelphs and Ghibellines, Empire and Church, while offering an insight into Verona’s enduring wine culture and its deep connection to history.

We had an amazing tour with Leo! Not only is he extremely knowledgeable about Dante and Verona but he adapted his tour to fit our interests and questions in real time which made it even more special for us. I highly recommend considering this tour if you want to experience Verona from a true local point of view. Plus, all the food stops were so unique with many tasting options.

Loved this tour! As a solo traveler, I felt welcome right away. The guide was great and made everything feel relaxed, interesting, and easy to enjoy. What I appreciated most was discovering Verona through its food traditions, passed down over time through stories, local knowledge, and shared culture. The connection between Dante’s history and the city’s living traditions made the experience feel both meaningful and authentic. Highly recommended :)

Absolut empfehlenswert!
